POETRY HOUSE, NEW ABK SURFACES FOR THE FRESH HOTEL IN ATHENS
An evocative renovation project shaped by a new poetic vision of living, featuring ABK surfaces and designed by OTTO Studio – Paola Navone. Light blue, deep blue and turquoise are the colours of the Mediterranean, the Cyclades, the sea and the ancient architecture of these places, which have always been a source of inspiration for Paola Navone.
Together with Gianpaolo Venier and Cristina Pettenuzzo of OTTO Studio, the Milanese designer redesigned the interiors of the Fresh Hotel in Athens using Poetry House surfaces, a porcelain stoneware project created in collaboration with ABK.
In the renovation of the building, old and new coexist in evocative harmony within spaces characterised by relaxing and welcoming atmospheres. The Fresh Hotel’s new look is brought to life through a concept that celebrates its dual soul: avant-garde yet classic at the same time, perfectly in tune with Athens itself, the capital of Greece and a city of contrasts.

The building’s original modernist style, characterized by the use of concrete and glass, has been softened in the recent renovation through the introduction of additional materials such as porcelain stoneware, which allows greater visual plasticity. OTTO Studio’s delicate approach to design has led to the creation of light, eclectic and contemporary Mediterranean-inspired environments.
Colors inspired by air and water, the natural finishes of the surfaces, materials and handcrafted decorative processes that recall local traditions are not mere details, but essential elements composing the overall picture.
For the terrace flooring, an ABK surface from the extensive Poetry House catalogue was selected—specifically the Poetry Stone series for outdoor use—coherent in style and color with the rest of the project, featuring the Carpet Paint Ash decorative design in the 120x120 cm format. The veined stone effect is enhanced by patterns created by the designer’s hand, distinguished by an intentionally imperfect and creative touch.
According to OTTO Studio – Paola Navone’s philosophy, decorations—suitable for both walls and floors—serve to reaffirm, without taking themselves too seriously, the primacy of uniqueness and instinctive gesture as aesthetic values. The hotel’s restyling is completed by refined details such as colorful ceramic plates on the walls, quirky fish-shaped handles, iconic French lamps, as well as a striking swimming pool and a terrace overlooking the Acropolis. All ingredients for a contemporary, original and exclusive stay.
